7 Common Skincare Mistakes To Avoid

Have you ever wondered why despite your elaborate skincare routine and cult-favorite skincare products, you still can’t seem to get glowing and acne-free skin? In this post, I will be highlighting seven really common skincare mistakes that are ruining your skin.

#1 Cleansing Wrongly

Cleansing is a crucial step in achieving clear and glowing skin. Though it sounds like a pretty straight forward step, it is often done wrong. It is common practice to see people with oily skin using harsh cleansers in a bid to rid the face of excessive oil. the opposite effect is usually what is achieved. stripping the skin of its natural oils sends a signal to the oil glands to produce more oils which eventually clog pores and causes breakouts. Mild face washes we love are the Cosrx Good Morning Cleanser and the Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser

#2 Going To Bed With Makeup On

Sleeping with makeup on is another common skincare mistake. Cleansing at night is super duper important especially if you wear makeup to get rid of the makeup, grime, and pollutants from the skin. Just slathering on a face wash will not cut it. Use an oil cleanser or cleansing balm as a first step and then follow up with a mild foaming cleanser. Cleansing balms we love are the Clinique take the day off Cleansing Balm and the Banila Co Clean it Zero

#3 Popping Your Pimples

Everyone who is into skincare probably knows this is a No NO. But when you have a face full of pimples it is very difficult to resist the urge to pop them ( I am guilty of this as well). Popping pimples drive the infection deeper into the skin which can lead to more breakouts. Applying a spot treatment or a patch like the Cosrx Pimple Master Patch helps to keep your hands off them and reduces the inflammation markedly in a short amount of time.

#4 Over Exfoliating

We are in the era of chemical exfoliants when every product contains one form of AHAs or the other and in our quest to get clear and glowing skin, we tend to be too aggressive with our skin. If you are using several products in your routine with these exfoliants, you could be causing more harm than good. Overtime this disrupts your skin barrier, leaving your skin dry and dehydrated which could trigger your oil glands into hyper mode to attempt to balance this out.

#5 Stopping at Your Jawline

It’s common practice to slather on skincare products on our face and then head out without bothering about the neck. But stopping at the neck is a skincare mistake that is bound to bite you in the back sooner or later. Our necks are a dead giveaway of our age. skincare products should be applied all the way down to our decolletage.

#6 Not Using Sunscreen

This is another very common skincare mistake. Sunlight is the number one cause of premature aging. It is a common misconception to think that sunscreens should be applied only on sunny days Wrong!!! you should apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect from both UVA and UVB radiation. UVA rays are more dangerous than UVB rays, they penetrate deeper into the skin causing fine lines, wrinkles, and disruption of collagen which leads to skin sagging. UVB, on the other hand, are responsible for sunburn, hyperpigmentation and age spots. Sunblocks we love are the Neutrogena Clear Face Sunblock and the La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Ultra-light Sunscreen Fluid

#7 Using Too Many Products

Using too many products at once could be the reason you are still breaking out. although this is multifactoral, this has been shown to be one of the more common reasons. Introducing one product at a time into your skin routine allows you to know how the product works with your skin type. this is especially important if you have sensitive skin.
